The man who interviewed Osama bin Laden

Peter Arnett is a journalist who covered the Vietnam War, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Gulf War and the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Now here was a man who was not afraid of being on the front line! In March, 1997 Arnett was able to secure an interview with the man who had just declared jihad on the United States, Osama bin Laden. Arnett was the first western journalist to interview the militant leader.

They met somewhere in eastern Afghanistan. Arnett was required to send the questions beforehand, and no follow-up questions were allowed. They spoke for an hour.

Towards the end of the interview, Arnett asked bin Laden: "What are your future plans?"

"You'll see them and hear about them in the media, God willing."
