This is David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve on the set of The Hunger (1983) in 1982, directed by Tony Scott who left us today in 2012.
I spent a fair bit of time staring at this photo believing for sure it was in New York City (yellow cab). But I was still stuck on where it was. I decided to call on some friends in a Manhattan Facebook group to help out. For the breakthrough, David Cohen finally outlined 2nd word i couldn't see behind Bowie. That is Ace "Lumber" (32-02 Astoria Blvd, Astoria, Queens) since demolished. Rick Pascual correctly said they are dining at the famed Neptune Diner (31-05 Astoria Blvd, Astoria, Queens).
You can see the walkway for Astoria Blvd Station for N and O trains to the right of Catherine Deneuve. The white building above Ace Lumber and red building left of it are still there.
I was last at Neptune Diner 12/12 2007 and had this crazy experience. Before arriving, I was killing time at the Rockefeller Center skating rink in the City and randomly took pictures of skaters in motion and by chance snapped a photo of a man who took a knee and proposed. She said yes.
I was meeting someone from the Philadelphia Flyers and just had to show him the ice rink pics i took of the marriage proposal. Then he said, you'll never believe this. "That is also where i proposed to my wife..." on 12/12 2002. He thanked me for showing him the pics because he had forgotten it was his 5th Anniversary!
