Ghost Mound is a rock plateau that sits in the middle of a cow pasture in Caddo County. It's not too difficult to climb to the top and people have carved their names and the dates that they were there. The earliest is 1911.
Ghost Mound was the inspiration for a novella written in 1930 by H.P. Lovecraft, while he was working as a writer for hire for Zealia Bishop.
She gave him a rather boring premise for the story she wanted him to write.
"There is an Indian Mound near here. It is haunted by a headless ghost. Sometimes the ghost is a woman."
Instead of writing an ordinary ghost story, he wrote a 25,000 word novella about the mound being a portal to a nonhuman subterranean civilization.
"The Mound" is regarded to be one of the best H.P.Lovecraft sold to be published by another author.
There are other legends and ghost stories about Ghost Mound.
Compared to Lovecraft's novella they are rather ordinary :)
