Capela dos Ossos Évora, Évora, Portugal

A museum by the people

The Chapel of Bones in Evora, Portugal, has about 5,000 skulls in it, many of women and children who were buried off sacred grounds. Priests dug their bones up and built the chapel, possibly as a way to save their souls, but another theory is that they might have wanted to make use of the land.
