While walking around the French Quarter one day, I stumbled onto another, adjacent neighborhood that surprised me just as much if not more than the Quarter itself. One of the oldest neighborhoods in town, the Faubourg Marigny today is a trendy place to be for hispters, artists and creative types of all kinds. You’ll see that almost immediately with the brightly colored shops and homes and graffiti that’s more art than vandalism. This oftentimes forgotten cousin of the French Quarter has definitely been through hard times, but has made a resurgence in recent years as new transplants to the city discover its hidden charms, just like I did. When you visit, definitely plan to spend an afternoon here window shopping at the boutiques and slowly enjoying coffee and people watching at the corner café. Later in the evening come back for some of the best live music in town.
