What is your preferred medium and subject matter?
That’s a hard question to answer since I am forever changing and still trying to figure out what kind of artist I am. I left school as a general artist; I took classes in drawing, painting, photography, digital art, and creative writing. I’m currently focusing on acrylic painting and film photography, but find myself wanting to keep exploring many other mediums. My work right now is primarily focused on humans and their relationship with nature.
How long have you been practicing?
I started film photography and craft classes in high school. This encouraged me to attend an arts school where I initially thought I wanted to work in film production. That changed halfway through my college education when I realized I had a natural inclination and ability to paint and draw, which up until that point I was convinced I was terrible at.
How has Room and Makers enabled you?
Room and Makers has inspired me in so many ways. Being around other types of artist and perspectives is invaluable. I am constantly encouraged to keep going, keep bettering myself and my work, and am constantly aware that pursuing the arts as a profession is a struggle for all creatives, but I’ve found that the reward is well-worth the hardships.
What's in store for the future?
I’m hosting and curating a group show with my friend Alex Brown this summer, as well as teaching my first painting workshop. Details for both can be found on our website, www.roomandmakers.com.
