I had to go into the post office when we passed it in Manhattan because
1. I love sending and receiving mail
2. Mostly to coordinate the stamps with who it's being sent to
3. April is National Letter Writing month and I hope everyone is writing and sending letters!
4. The building is impressive and enormous...like two entire city blocks!
Engraved on the outside of the building is a quote from Herodutus' Histories reading,
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from their swift completions of their appointed rounds.”
During its heyday the James A. Farley Building was the only post office open 24/7 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Support the United States Postal Service; it's pretty amazing that it is still going!
