The Demon Cat of Congress

Just before a national tragedy or a change of Presidential hands, a domestic-sized black cat purportedly appears in the halls of Congress. The first sighting goes back to the early 1800s. Cats were brought into the capitol building to kill off the rats. The Demon Cat is one that never left. It made appearances just before the assassinations of Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennendy and the 1929 stock market crash.

The cat has also been seen in Washington's Tomb, two levels below the Capitol Rotunda. The tomb was the planned resting place of George Washington and his family, but the family declined the offer. Besides the prowls of the Demon Cat, the tomb stands empty.
