On October 3, 1960 husband-wife musical duo, Ike and Tina, performed on American Bandstand. It was the first time they appeared on television. They performed their song A Fool in Love. The song had become a hit in late spring of that year, reaching #27 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song was later described in Tina Turner's autobiography, I, Tina as "the blackest record to ever creep the white pop charts since Ray Charles' 'What'd I Say' a year before".
