Pasadena Hunt Club

Just above Altadena in the Angeles National Forest and slightly off the beaten path that is the Gabrielino Trail, one can find the remains of a memorial to the Pasadena Hunt Club, the august organization that claims responsibility for beginning Pasadena's famous Tournament of Roses Parade in 1890. The spot has always been a bit tricky to find, but after the Station Fire (and the mudslides that followed) raged through the forest in 2009, the monument has become partially buried. Today, only the top half rises above the the soil, but even though you can't see the monument in its full glory, if you like offbeat, mysterious, or unusual historical artifacts, it's still worth a hike to see this relic from a past age.
