Even though it was over 80F in the Bay Area this weekend, we still heeded the call of Fall and the lure of fresh fruit right off the tree and headed inland to pick some apples. We'd never before visited Gizdich ranch and we weren't disappointed. It was a gorgeous day, the apples were plentiful, and despite the dust (thank you drought!) we had a grand time tasting the different varietals and filling out plastic buckets with fruit for pie, apple butter, and just plain eating. The place is pup friendly, kid friendly, and fun. When you're done picking apples, stop at the deli for a fresh slice of pie, or to grab one to go. Then, just for kicks, stop by the antique store. Or take your pie out to the picnic area and savor the taste of pure freshness while the kids bounce around climbing trees and tractors. We did a comparison test - apple vs raspberry pie. I brought home an apple pie, but I sorely wish I'd brought home the raspberry one. I'll be heading back there sooner rather than later to snag another slice of that little bit of heaven.
