We had seen the Elephant Safari featured on TV, the company's website is full of Hollywood celebrities visiting the park, and our hotel concierge recommended it as well. The appeal really is the amazing experience to see the elephants, interact with them and ride the elephants.
I admit, we had mixed feelings about the Elephant Safari Park & Lodge in Ubud. The "mixed feeling" part came from questioning how the animals are treated in a tourist attraction, and while we didn't see animals mistreated, I don't know if this was the best environment for the animals either. We did see one elephant with a chain in his leg, and we didn't enjoy the elephant show of the animals performing circus-type tricks. However, we truly enjoyed interacting with the elephants, and we loved feeding the gorgeous but gentle giants. Visiting Elephant Safari gave us a memory of a lifetime, and I highly recommend an elephant activity while in Bali. The Elephant Safari Park & Lodge has a reputation of being one of the top elephant experiences in Bali, but I think they still have improvement to do in the terms of treating the animals. This was one of the favorite activities on the island for my 13-year-old daughter.
