We were walking towards the Uluwatu temple in Bali, when we saw numerous monkeys hanging out in the forest next to the walking path. We were warned not to have sunglasses on, or many things in our hands, because the monkeys can be very aggressive and will try to take them from you. We were prepared, and I had everything but my camera tucked deeply away in my bag. We saw this peaceful monkey family eating their lunch together, and didn't know why people called the monkeys so aggressive. So cute! The entire family together! We were so excited to see them, and so focused on taking photos that the loud scream, and a jump up in the air, took all of us by surprise. It was me... screaming and jumping up, because a monkey was trying to rip off a flower decoration of my sandals!
We continued walking towards the temple, and the monkey kept following me, and sneaking up again on me trying to get the flower from my sandal! So yes, the Bali monkeys can be aggressively friendly, and obsess over all sorts of things, even sandals.
