When you take the cable car up to Monte, to the Botanical Garden of Funchal, you know you have to come down the hill as well, right? Now, this is even better than the cable car. Take the Monte sledge down, it's a a wicker toboggan with special "drivers" who steer it. The toboggans have been in business since 1850.
Each toboggan has two sledge drivers called “Carreiros,” dressed in a straw hat, white pants and they have special shoes to keep traction. And leg muscles of soccer players to run, kick and steer the large wicker sleigh on the curvy downhill road. Yes, I said curvy.
I didn't think it was going to go as fast as it did, nor I thought it was going to be as much fun as it was. It was a thrill that I highly recommend!
