As with every Thanksgiving, there is a family walk. This year we took it to the American River. And gadzooks! I was excited to see hundreds of giant salmon swimming --- no, thrashing! --- their way upstream to lay their eggs. The length of the journey was apparent (from the Pacific Ocean to here): their fins were falling apart and scales were discolored, but boy were they determined. Many had already done their job. Birds of all kinds were circling the carcasses floating aimlessly in the river. Good job, salmon friends.
